TD-SCDMA Update

- Nokia recently confirmed its plan to sell TD-SCDMA-based mobile phones in China. The company is scheduled to start offering TD-SCDMA phones in the Chinese market in the first half of 2008.

- According to a Xinhua report, China Mobile is scheduled to invite bids for TD-SCDMA mobile phone supply, valued at as much as 6 billion RMB (US$779.2 million; US$1 = 7.7 RMB) overall, in September 2007. The company is expected to purchase approximately two million TD-SCDMA phones tagged between 2,000 RMB (US$260) and 3,000 RMB (US$390). In addition, a total of two million TD-SCDMA phone numbers will be issued from October 2007 through the first half of 2008.
